| The
Cincinnati Stingers head home today, the long plane ride brightened by an 8-4 victory over
the Finnish national team at Vaasa, Finland, Thursday night in the finale of their
invasion of Czechoslovakia, Sweden and Finland. Robbie Ftorek spearheaded the Stingers'
attack with three goals as the club finished the four with two straight victories. With a
number of new players on hand and the whole squad learning new coach Jacques Demers'
system, the Stingers opened with five straight losses, growing more repeatable until
closing out with the victories. The Stingers, who are
scheduled to arrive at Greater Cincinnati Airport at 11:35 tonight, have been using Ftorek
as center for his former Phoenix left-winger, Del Hall, and Rick Dudley. Dennis Sobchuk
centers for Peter Marsh and Blaine Stoughton and Richie Leduc is the playmaker for Claude
Larose and Dennis Abgrall on the other unit. Larose had three assists in the final game. |
