The Stingers got on the board first with a Richie Leduc goal at 6:27 in the first period with a nice backhanded shot from the circle which caught the Whalers goalkeeper Al Smith off guard. It would be the third straight game in which the Stingers scored first. Regrettably the end result was the same as the last two games.....A loss. The Whalers went on to tie the game up at 14:36 when Mike Rogers batted the puck past Stinger goalie Mike Liut.

The second period was a complete disaster for the Stingers. Early in the period Mark Howe went on a three-on-one break to score at 2:43. Later in the period former Stinger John McKenzie came back with a deflected shot for another goal and Mark Howe set up his father Gordie during a power play for another goal. Gordie shot the puck from the point and the puck whizzed by Liut for the score. Whaler George Lyle scored the fourth goal of the period when he knocked home his own rebound from about 10 feet out.

In the third period the Stingers finally answered with a goal at 2:29. Defenseman Gilles Marotte got a shot from the far point that went past Whaler goalie Al Smith as the keeper was screened at the time. Not that it mattered much. It was the only goal the Stingers would get in the final period. Cincinnati lost again.

"The teams we've played don't respect us," head coach Jacques Demers said. "If they hadn't, I'd keep my mouth shut. We simply can't compete with New England. We need an experienced defenseman, a right winger and a left winger. We've played six games against New England and Winnipeg and as things stand now we cannot compete with them. New England has too much talent." Demers went on. "Lets face it, we need a goon." Demers meets today with Stinger executive vice president Bill DeWitt Jr. and player personnel director Jerry Rafter to talk about picking up the necessary bodys.
