Despite playing six games in eight nights, the Stingers came out and
delivered in front of their home crowd. The club arrived in Cincinnati at 1:30 Wednesday
afternoon. But during the game the Racers were sluggish and Cincinnati controlled the game
from the opening faceoff.

At 3:37 in the first period, the
Stingers Robbie Ftorek scored when he planted himself in front of the Racer net where he
was fed beautifully from behind the goal by teammate Jamie Hislop. It would be Ftorek's
17th goal of the season. Stingers defenseman Barry Legge scored a follow-up goal at 11:48
when he hit a high hard shot from the left circle.
No goals were scored during the second
period but the Stingers added an insurance goal at 3:31 in the final period. Del Hall
dumped a shot past Racer goalie Gary Inness after linemate Robbie Ftorek won a faceoff in
the Racer end. After the Stingers went up by three, the club downshifted into defense and
held the Racers scoreless throughout the entire game.
"I thought we controlled the puck
well, and it's lucky we did," says head coach Jacques Demers. "We were tired and
we didn't have the legs for a battle. If you control the puck, they (the opponent) can't
score. We did the same thing the night before against Quebec. I don't want any more
excuses from me or the players. We had a tough trip and the schedule has been hard, but
we're here to win and that's what we're going to do." |
