The Stingers, 18 seconds into the game, opened up their third straight
game with a goal. Or what appeared to be a goal by Stinger Blaine Stoughton. Soughton took
a shot from the slot and Rich Leduc swatted the rebound out of the air and into the Aeros
net. But referee Peter Moffat ruled high stick on Leduc's maneuver and disallowed the
goal. Later in the period, Stoughton sunk the puck yet again deep into the Aeros net but
this time it counted as a goal. Peter Marsh dug the puck off the boards in the Aeros' zone
and passed it across the ice to Stoughton. Stoughton then skated in from the other side as
Aeros goalie Ernie Wakely had committed to Marsh. Stoughton fired the puck past Wakely for
the score. Wakely began the season as a Stinger.

The second period belonged to the
goaltenders as Wakely and Stinger goalkeeper Michel Dion came up with some big saves. Both
teams had some good scoring opportunities, but the combination of goaltending and bad
bounced by the puck prevented any scoring. The second period was a big sloppy at times as
neither team seemed interested in maintaining pressure. Late in the second period,
Cincinnati managed to hold the puck in the Houston zone but Wakely refused his former team
each time.
By the time the third period rolled
around, the Stingers were running out of gas. Not because the Aeros were playing so well
but the game was the third game in three nights played by Cincinnati. Twelve seconds into
the final period the Aeros scored. the goal came from Rich Preston who took a pass from
teammate Andre Lacroix and dumping the puck past Dion from right in front of the net.
Preston scored again at 9:51 after taking a pass from Larry Lund to take the lead. Morris
Lukowich scored the final goal of the game late in the final period to pad the Aeros lead
and the eventual victory over the tired Stingers.
