| The Stingers started the
game quite slow in the opening period, having trouble getting the puck out of their own
zone. After Jamie Hislop drew a holding minor, the Racers Reg Thomas was able to take
advantage and scored a goal at 4:10. The Stingers settled down a bit and were able to
answer at 11:01 when Dudley knocked one past Racer goalkeeper Inness for the score. The
goal came when Hislop held the puck from behind the Racers net and passed to Ftorek.
Ftorek then took a shot which was blocked and Dudley, who was standing right in front of
the Racers net, easily knocked in the rebound. At 13:29 Reg
Thomas was called for hooking, which gave Cincinnati a power play. But Dennis Abgrall was
called for high sticking shortly after, which gave up the Stingers advantage. Michel Dion
was making his first start since January 8th when they played the Soviet All-Stars in an
exhibition game and he sure looked good in the first period.
In the second period the Racers scored a goal thirty three seconds
in. Claude St Sauveur scored the early goal with a wrist shot from about 40 feet out to
fool the Stingers goalie. Peter Driscoll scored a follow up goal at 5:36 when he fired a
close shot that appeared to hit off the cross bars. After referee Ron Harris consulted
with the goal judge, ruled that the puck did indeed go in for the score. Pat Stapleton was
given a game misconduct for protesting the ruling. Michel Dion was then tossed from the
game after physically attacking referee Ron Harris.
The Stingers bounced back in the second period and was able to
answer with two straight goals to tie the game up. Marsh scored the first goal on a
deflection after Brian Coates swiped a pass from behind the Racers net and tapped the puck
in front. Claude Larose bagged the second goal when he got the puck from Dennis Abgrall
who then took a quick shot on the net.
In the third period Jamie Hislop went on to score the game winner in
what would be his fourth game winning goal of the season. He bagged the goal with only 21
seconds left in the game. The goal came when Rick Dudley carried the puck in and fed it to
Hislop, who was on the right side. It was there where Hislop blasted the shot which sailed
by Inness for the score. |
