The Aeros Cam Connor scored the first goal of the game at 1:14 in the
first period. Connor got the puck from teammate John Tonelli who was behind the Stingers
net. Connor had no trouble getting the puck past Norm LaPointe for the score. Just 20
seconds later, Cincinnati scored on an identical play when Jamie Hislop carried the puck
behind the net and fed teammate Brian Coates who was standing in front of goalie Ernie
Wakely.
Cincinnati scored again with the same
maneuver at 5:55 but this time it was Peter Marsh feeding Rich Leduc for the score. The
Stingers went up 3-1 when Robbie Ftorek deflected a Hislop shot in front of the net with
the Houston defense napping. The Aeros pulled within one goal when former Stinger John
Hughes fired from just inside the blue line. LaPointe made the initial stop and Andre
Lacroix tapped the rebound.
During the second period, Cincinnati
scored one goal and the Aeros scored two to tie the game up for the third period. In the
third period, Terry Ruskowski put the Aeros in front, 5-4 at 8:02 with a goal when he took
the puck in the circle and shot low on the ice past Norm LaPointe. Peter Marsh tied
the game at 11:25 of the final period, getting the puck from Ron Plumb and firing from the
left circle to beat former Stinger goalie Ernie Wakely. That was Cincinnati's last goal as
Wakely refused to yield the rest of the way to his former team.
Both teams looked warn down in
overtime, due no doubt in part to each playing its third game in as many nights. The Aeros
and Stingers both failed to score and each club had to settle for a tie in the standings.
