at 5:52. The Jets went ahead again by two after Lyle Moffat and Dan Labraaten scored. Once

During the second period the Jets continued to dominate even
though the Stingers tied the game up shortly with a Rick Dudley goal at 10:27. Dudley
skated past two Winnipeg checks to beat Jets goalie Joe Daley right in front of the net.
The Jets took the lead yet again when Hedberg beat LaPointe with a high, wobbling shot
over the Stinger goalie's shoulder at 14:57. He followed up the goal with another at 19:25
furing a Jets power play.
The Stingers pressured Winnipeg in the third period and Didley
brought Cincinnati back within one on a power play goal at 13:5. He deflected a Plumb shot
into the Jets net for the score. The Stingers almost tied the game up when Pat Stapleton
had Daley beat with a booming shot from the point, but the puck hit the goal post and
bounched away from the net. In the last minute of the game, Demers pulled LaPointe for a
sixth skater but failed to score. Instead the Jets iced their victory with an open net
goal by Kent Nilsson.
The Stingers head coach Jacques Demers commented on why the club
plays so poorly in front of their home crowd. 'We don't seem as relaxed at home as we are
on the road. We've beaten Winnipeg twice up there, and we've beaten New England and Quebec
on the road. The players really wanted to win. But we played little nervous. They want to
win for the home fans, and I think maybe they push a little too hard and make mental
errors." Demers also commented about how great his team captina Rick Dudley played.
"I think Duds and I are closer since that incident. I think we both know each other a
little better and respect each other more now. Duds played a great game, and he had two
points against Indy." |
