Dennis Abgrall signed with the Stingers in June of this
year as a free agent from the National Hockey League's Los Angeles Kings. Abgrall, a
twenty-three year old right winger, played his junior hockey with the Saskatoon Blades
prior to turning pro in 1973. During his first season with the Portland Buckaroos of the
Western Hockey League, (farm club of the LA Kings, who had drafted him in the fifth round
of the amateur draft the preceding June) Dennis scored 24 goals and added 41 assists for
65 points. Last year Abgrall split time with the Fort Worth Texans (Central Hockey League)
and the Texans parent club, the Kings. Abgrall has signed a multi-year pact with the
Stingers.

Dudley led all Stingers players last
season with 43 goals and 38 assists for a total of 81 points, as he played all three
forward positions for head coach Terry Slater. Although Dudley is only 27, he is
considered to be one of the veterans on a team that has an average age in the early
twenties. While spending two years in the NHL with the Buffalo Sabres, "Duds"
was named the Most Improved Player on the Sabres BOTH years, as well as finishing ninth in
the balloting for the Hart Trophy (emblematic of the Most Valuable Player in the League)
his second season. He was appointed Captain of the Stingers August 25th, 1976, succeeding
first year Captain Mike Pelyk, who has rejoined the Toronto Maple Leafs. Dudley began
wearing a helmet in the middle of last season, and he will continue to do so this year. |

Pierre is entering his fifth season of the WHA, having
been with the League since its inception. After spending two and one half years with the
Quebec Nordiques, Guite was traded to the Michigan Stags in the middle of the '74-'75
season, and was then signed by the Stingers less than a month later. Guite's hard nosed'
style of play coupled with his scoring ability made him an instant fan favorite last year.
An injury February 20th sidelined him for the remainder of the season. The injury occurred
on his first shift of the night as Pierre crashed into the Stingers goalpost full force
and in doing so, he fractured two transverse vertebra in the lower portion of his back. |
|
John is a former number 1 draft choice whom the Stingers
signed in May of 1974, Hughes spent his junior career with the Toronto Marlies in the
Ontario Hockey Association's Junior "A" League, serving as their Captain in his
final season. On loan to the Phoenix Roadrunners during the 1974-75 season, Hughes
suffered a knee injury in the final game of the regular season. Although a sore shoulder
and the tenderness of his left knee hampered John's effectiveness last year, total
dedication and fierce determination were very evident in the fact that he still played in
79 out of the 80 game schedule. With a healthy knee and the soreness gone from his right
shoulder, Slater looks for a big year from this Charlottetown P.E.I. native. |

As a rookie last year, Inkpen proved to be one of the best
defenseman on the team at carrying the puck out of the Stingers end. Dave was a number two
draft choice of Cincinnati's in the '74 amateur draft after an outstanding junior career
with the Edmonton Oil Kings of the Western Canadian Hockey League. In his final year with
Edmonton, Inkpen scored a personal high of 11 goals and 43 assists as he Captained the oil
Kings to one of their best finishes in recent years. Prior to joining the Stingers last
season, Dave toiled in the International League, splitting time between the Flint Generals
and the Des Moines Oak Leafs. Inkpen's off season home is in Edmonton. iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii |

Norm was a top draft choice of the Stingers in "75
June amateur draft. In his final year with Three Rivers of the Quebec Major Hockey League,
he was named to the second All Star team in the league, selected as the MVP of his team,
and also chosen as the MVP of the entire league. Last season Norm split time between the
parent Stingers and their farm club, Hampton Gulls. LaPointe suffered a severely bruised
larynx which hospitalized him for ten days after being struck in the throat by a slapshot
off the stick of Quebec's Steve Sutherland. While with Hampton, LaPointe figured keenly in
their first place finish at the end of the regular season, sporting a sparkling 2.69 goals
against average over a span of 33 games. |

As a rookie last year, Larose blinked the red light 28
times and added 24 assists to finish second in the Rookie scoring parade, behind
Birmingham's Mark Napier. Claude was the number 1 draft choice of the Stingers and the
entire WHA in June of '75. By the middle of January he had already proven the Stingers'
scouting reports to be right on the money by being named the only rookie in the WHA to
compete in the 4th Annual All-Star Classic. Larose possesses a booking slapshot that
accounted for approximately two thirds of his total goal output in his freshman year.
While playing in Sherbrooke with the Quebec Major Hockey League, Claude was a team-mate of
another Stingers first round draft choice, 20 year old Peter Marsh. Larose is nicknamed
"The Rocket". |
|
Nicknamed "The Jet Man" because of his
tremendous speed, Locas ended up as the second leading scorer for the Stingers last year.
Jaques was a number one draft choice of the Stingers while he still had another year of
junior eligibility left, a year that saw him net 99 goals and 107 assists in leading the
Quebec Ramparts to the Memorial Cup Finals. "The Jet Man" has great passing
skills and e was considered to be the most consistent center at winning face-offs all last
year. Although Jaques was required to have knee surgery during the off-season because of
torn legiments, it is expected that he will be ready to play at the beginning of the
season. iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii
