The Indianapolis Racers opened the game up with a goal by Blair MacDonald
at 1:09 in the first period. MacDonald brought the puck over Cincinnati's blue line and
then circled around Stinger John Hughes, beating Norm LaPointe at the net. Hughes in
frustration, then took the puck and shot it into the stand. The defenseman was promptly
sent to the penalty box for delay of game. After Hughes finished serving his penalty, he
was sent right back after a hooking call. During both penalties, the Stingers fought off
the Racers and holding them scoreless. Cincinnati finally got on the board at 12:00 when
Claude Larose took a hard slap shot from the left circle during a power play. Larose would
score again at 15:34 after he deflected a pass from Jacques Locas right in front of the
Racers net.

In the second period the Racers
kicked it in gear by scoring four goals to the Stingers one. Reg Thomas started the
aggression with a goal at 8:54 in the period. The goal came during a Racers power play.
Blair MacDonald scored his second of the game shortly after when he took a pass and skated
right up to the Stingers net for the score.
The Racers scored yet again when Hugh
Harris picked the pocket of Stingers Brian Maxwell and took off with the puck on the
breakaway. He then faked to one side, throwing LaPointe off, then batting the puck in for
the goal. In defense of Brain Maxwell, he was playing in his first game since breaking his
collar bone in a preseason game against the Nordiques. Cincinnati finally answered when
Blaine Stoughton bagged a goal at 17:21. But less then thirty seconds later, the Racers
Blair MacDonald scored his third goal of the game to complete the hat-trick.
In the third period, the Racers Mark
Lomenda took a pass from over the Stingers blue line on the far right side and took a
nasty slap shot that whizzed by Norm LaPointe for the goal. Rick Dudley later made the
final score modest after he netted a goal in the final minute of the game. It would be the
first home loss suffered by the Stingers. |
