The Stingers headed back to Market Square Arena after another convincing
victory over the Racers. However, the building had not been kind to the Stingers. The same
way in which Riverfront Coliseum had not been kind to the Racers.

off Stingers Richie Leduc. Goalie Mike Dion blocks a
short shot taken by the Stinger. |
The Racers Blair McDonald scored
the first of many Indianapolis goals early in the first period. With Gene Peacosh
following exactly eight minutes later. Cincinnati yet again played sluggish in
Indianapolis but this time the culprit was illness. Rick Dudley, Richie Leduc, Dennis
Sobchuk, Frank Ouimet and Jacques Locas were all hit with the flu bug but played despite
it. And the Racers took full advantage.
Indianapolis scored their third goal of
the game in the second period. The goal game from the war-club of left winger Michal
Parizeau just shortly after the middle period began. It would be his sixth goal of the
season. Indianapolis went on to score yet again when Reg Thomas swiped the puck at mid-ice
and skated up to Stingers goalie Norm LaPointe untouched. Thomas then made a backhanded
shot that went right past LaPointe for the score. Gene Peacosh would make it 5-0 at 12:03
when he deflected the puck past LaPointe directly in front of the goal after a fine pass
from teammate Hugh Harris. Cincinnati finally got on the board shortly after when Jacques
Locas scored in a deflection of a pass from teammate Claude Larose.
The Stingers entered the third period
down by four goals. Locas scored again in the third period at 4:20 after he fired in
a deflected shot by teammate Pierre Guite during a power play. Despite being sick, t would
be his second goal of the game. The Stingers who were still down by three goals continued
to make the score respectable when Dave Inkpen slapped a screaming shot from the blue line
past Racers goalie Michal Dion.
Terry Slater who was incredibly hoarse
after screaming over one thing or another during the game said "The whole team is
sick. It's awful. I don't know what is going on". Slater hoped to regroup health-wise
before the clubs trip into Edmonton. |
