After the beating the Stingers club took in their previous game.
Cincinnati took out their vengeance on the Indianapolis Racers. Racers head coach Jacques
Demers stated "You have to give them credit. They could have beaten anyone in hockey
tonight. I have never seen Cincinnati dominate us like they did here. We tried a few
things but it didn't make any difference." The Stingers slapped the Racers with a
gut-wrenching 9-0 loss.
Slater had told his team that
Indianapolis would use a certain style of play. So Slater set up his game plan to counter
the defense tactics he predicted the Racers would use. Slater would say "The Racers
played just the way I said they would. I said we would have to attack them and we did. It
was really a coaches game".
Richie Leduc scored three goals in the
game for the hat trick. He scored once in each period including the final goal. Team
captain Rick Dudley scored a couple goals of his own. They would be goals six and seven in
the last three games. The new line of Blaine Stoughton, Claude Larose and Jamie Hislop
accounted for six points. Stoughton and Larose both bagged a goal each with Hislop in on
the assists. Dennis Sobchuk also scored what would be his 28th goal of the season. And
Dennis Abgrall scored a goal also.
The Stingers goaltender Jacques Caron
recorded his first Stingers shut out and came up with many big saves to protect it. His
shutout would put the Stingers back at the .500 mark with a record of 25-25-2 and would be
the clubs highest scoring victory in the franchises short history.
Head coach Terry Slater apparently had
the ears of his player. Something that had not always been the case during the season.
"They did everything exactly as they were suppose to do. Everybody listened to me and
did everything the way we went through it in practice". Slater would say.
