The Quebec Nordiques Real Cloutier scored the first goal of the game at
11:14 in the first period. His goal came on a two-on-one break with linemate Marc Tardiff
who carried the puck into the Cincinnati zone. Tardiff then passed the puck to Cloutier
who was directly in front of the Stingers net. Cloutier then batted it past LaPointe for
his 41st goal of the season. Dennis Sobchuk made an attempt to score but came up short
after he took off with the puck down the ice on a short handed breakaway into the
Nordiques zone. He took his shot but was rejected by the Nordiques goalie Richard Brodeur.
Quebec responded with another goal. The second goal was scored by Tardiff during a power
play. Former Stinger Pierre Guite was called for high sticking but Cincinnati was unable
to score during the power play.
During the middle period the Nordiques
scored three more goals to put Quebec up by five goals. Curt Brackenbury scored the first
goal when he took a pass from teammate Bob Fitchner right in front. The Stingers had
control of the puck but couldn't get it out of their end. Norm Dube scored the next goal
after he received a pass from teammate Serge Bernier. Dube then blasted a shot from the
slot that flew past LaPointe for the score. The final Nordiques goal came from Paulin
Borgeleau who stole a Cincinnati pass in his own end and took off down the ice to score
his seventh short handed goal of the season. The Nordiques out skated and outplayed the
Stingers to put the game out of the Stingers reach.
Rick Dudley finally ended the Nordiques
shut out with a goal at 13:11 with a shot from up close after taking a pass from Billy
Steele. But the Nordiques Brackenbury scored another Quebec goal at 18:58 to keep his club
up by five goals. Shortly before the game concluded, Dale Smedsmo and Quebec's Charles
Constantin broke out into a small skirmish. Both players were sent to the penalty box for
the remained of the game.
