The Stingers scored first in the game when Peter Marsh bashed the puck   through the Nordiques goaltender Richard Brodeur pad in the middle of a pile up. Cincinnati scored a follow up goal at 10:23 in the period when rookie Greg Carroll and Claude Larose skated into the Nordiques zone on opposite sides of the ice. Carroll passed the puck across the ice to Larose. Larose only had Brodeur to beat which he did with ease.   The Stingers Jacques Caron made some fabulous saves throughout the first period with a pressing Nordiques offense. But the Nordiques finally beat Caron by scoring in the final minute of the period. The goal came when Paulin Bordeur scored on a deflection.

Gregg Carroll scored the first goal of the second period to put the Stingers up by two goals again. Carroll took a pass from Larose and then he batted the puck past Brodeur for the score. Peter Marsh made the score 4-1 when he hit a hard, high shot from the deep left circle for the score. Cincinnati kept the Nordiques in check through out the period and disallowed the club to score. The Stingers did it by a lot of skating and hard checking.

In the third period, the Nordiques managed to tack another goal on the board at 11:55. Andre Boudrias came up with the puck off of Dennis Sobchuk's skate from in front of the Stingers net. Bourdrias then blasted the puck past Caron for the score. In the final minute of play, the Nordiques head coach pulled goalie Brodeur for a sixth skater and the club went for broke. But the Stingers scored on an open net to seal the deal. The goal came from Larose who came up with the puck as time ran out and torched a shot from outside the blue line. The puck nested right in the center of the open net. The goal came at 19:59 with only one second remaining.
