The Stingers Blaine Stoughton
began the destruction in the first period on a two-on-one situation with teammate Dennis
Sobchuk who gave him the puck as he moved in on the Roadrunners goalie. Stoughton scored a
follow up goal at 12:19 after some nifty puck handling which ended in a goal. The Stingers
third goal came from Dennis Abgrall at 14:08 when he found himself alone directly in front
of the Roadrunners net. He nabbed a rebounded puck which he quickly slipped into the net
while the Roadrunners players were distracted by Richie Leduc. Team captain Rick Dudley
scored the final goal of the first period on a stick move and while skating around the
right circle. He then moved right up to the net and slipped the puck past a surprised
Hebenton.
In the second period Richie Leduc took
a baseball swing at a flying puck that was batted away by the Roadrunners goalie Hebenton
after a shot take by Pierre Guite. Leducs screamer sailed right into the net for the
Stingers fifth goal of the game. Rookie Greg Carroll followed with a rebound shot. And
Cluade Larose followed scored on a rebound also.
The final Stingers goal came at 12:40
by Claude Larose. Larose took a shot from the right circle after Dennis "the
greyhound" Sobchuk fed the puck to him from the opposite side. The Stingers were now
up by a score of 8-0. The only thing left was to contain Norm LaPointes shutout in which
they succeeded in doing. It would be his first major league shutout.
The performance pushed Cincinnati into
the league lead in goals per game. The Stingers had produced 132 goals in 28 outings for
an average of 4.71 per game. Winnipeg trailed with a 4.67 average in 31 games and 145
goals. |
