Terry Slater was very unhappy with his clubs performance in the prior
game. "We didn't hit anybody all night.". The Stingers were the second least
penalized team in the entire league. So during practice before the game against the Aeros,
Slater had half of his team practice without sticks. The players had to go into the
corners and dig the puck out and the players had to hit.

Stingers Peter Marsh gets a warm welcome to
the jaw by Aeros Glen Irwin. |
The Stingers got on the board
first with a goal by defensman Barry Legge who scooped up a loose puck which sat in front
of the Aeros goal. He proceeded to dump the puck in for the score. Shortly after
Jacques Locas scored his fifteenth goal of the season after a rebound of a shot take by
teammate Brian Maxwell.
The Aeros went on to score in the
second period at 8:36 by John Tonelli. Tonelli knocked in a short shot from a pass taken
by teammate Ted Taylor from behind the Stingers net. But the Stingers Pierre Guite
answered with a goal at 15:05 in the period. Guite was in position to score when by luck a
loose puck fell right in front of him so he could whack in for the score. During the
second period, Slater pulled Dennis Sobchuk from the line he was sharing with Claude
Larose and Blaine Stoughton. His production in the past few games had slowed down, so he
replaced him with Greg Carroll.
Shortly after the final period began,
the Aeros scored a goal to bring them within one. The goal came from Cam Connor, who
received a nice pass from teammate Rich Preston and then beating Norm LaPointe for the
score. But the Stingers pulled away on the score board with three straight goals. The
first goal came from Claude Larose at 9:41 when he received a pass from teammate Ron
Plumb. He then took a hard slap shot which tore past the arms of the Aeros goalie Grahame.
The second goal came from the stick of Blaine Stoughton at 13:36. The goal came
after teammate John Hughes slapped a hard shot at the Aeros net and Houston's goalkeeper
was unable to control the puck which gave Stoughton the opportunity to score.
The final goal of the game came from
the back of Greg Carroll. However, Blaine Stoughton by all intents should have been credit
with the goal because he took the initial shot. Stoughton hit the puck at the Aeros net,
it hit the cross bar, then goal pipe and then Carrolls back. After hitting Carrolls back
the puck went into the net for the score. Since Carroll was the last player to touch the
puck, he was credited with the goal. |
