(AP) - Bobby Hull will meet with officials of the World Hockey Association next week in an
effort to negotiate his way out of his contract with Winnipeg and clear way for a possible
return to the Chicago Black Hawks of the National Hockey League, the Toronto Star said
Monday. Hull jumped from the NHL to the Winnipeg Jets three seasons ago for a $1 million
sighing bonus and $250,000 annually over 10 years. Each WHA team contributed to the
contract and Hull's arrival was seen as the making of the new league. Bud Poile , WHA vice president in charge of hockey operations, said in
Toronto Monday that he had not heard of the proposed meeting. Polie added that he talked
to Hull last week and that no mention of Bobby's possible return to the NHL had been made
at the time. The newspaper, noting that Hull had staged a one-game strike last week to
protest growing violence in the game, said he is unhappy in Winnipeg. |
