The Stingers traveled out to the west coast for the
first time. It would be the third game in a five game road trip.
The Mariners were the first to get on the board after
former Philadelphia Flyer Andre Lacroix scored at 3:14. Joe Noris and Don Burgesson were
in on the assist. The Stingers Pat Donnelly answered at 13:00. Gene Sobchuk was in on the
assist.
During the second period, Andre Lacroix netted his
second goal of the game. Teammate Brent Hughes was in on the assist. Rick Dudley followed
shortly after with assists by John Hughes and Dave Inkpen. Shortly before the close of the
second period, the Mariners left winger Kevin Morrison scored with Alec Tidey and Kevin
Devine in on the assist.
In the third period, the Stingers tied the game up when
rookie Claude Larose slapped a shot from inside the blue line. The goal sent the game into
overtime with neither teams managing to make a goal for a win. The matchup ended in a tie
and one point for each team in the standings.
"Anytime you get a point on the road is good and
I'll take it". Slater said. "Our team is working hard and I just have to keep
them healthy because we've been hurt by injuries. We're not the club that likes to sit
back". He also mentioned "Goalie John Kiely is playing well and he makes a
difference for us. He's making good saves and the lines are stating to stabilize in front
of him". Kiely dealt with 44 shots on goal for four periods. Cincinnati only launched
33 on the Mariners goalkeeper Russ Gillow.
Being an overtime game on the west coast, the game
was not concluding in enough time for coverage to be submitted for the Cincinnati papers.
As a result, game info is lean and complete box scores were never printed in Cincinnati
papers.
