MIKE GARTNER

Mike Gartner began his pro career at 18 (which was to young for the NHL),So Gartner was wooed by the WHA's Cincinnati Stingers. He signed a four-year contract, beginning with the 1978-79 season. Proving the critics wrong, the speedy right-winger recorded 52 points and was runner-up to Wayne Gretzky for Rookie-of-the-Year honours. Following the season's conclusion, the WHA & NHL merged and Gartner's ultimate dream became reality.
